County of Charleston Signs Lease with Chicora Life Center

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE — July 18, 2014

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — Chicora Life Center, the redeveloped property of the historic old Naval Hospital, today announced that the County of Charleston has signed a lease to become the anchor tenant in the property.

“This is a win-win for the county taxpayers and the community-at-large,” said Doug Durbano, manager, Chicora Life Center. “In addition to redeveloping a historic property that was left abandoned for years, today’s announcement is a major step toward our mission of building a one-stop social services hub for the citizens of the Charleston metro region.”

Charleston County Council Chairman Teddie Pryor agreed.

"I think the economic development impact in that area will be huge," said Pryor in an interview with the Charleston Post & Courier. "It is just a start. I think all the property and development that is coming will be huge for that area.”

The Chicora Life Center is a $20 million-plus privately invested redevelopment of the old Naval Hospital property in North Charleston, SC. The Center will serve as a social services hub, featuring myriad social, government, non-profit and care facilities – all in one building conveniently located in the heart of Charleston County.
