Chicora Life Center Enters into Long Term Lease with Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center

NORTH CHARLESTON, SC — Chicora Life Center today announced that it has entered into a long term lease with Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center.

“The addition of this key tenant is yet another step toward our vision of creating a comprehensive social services hub for the community under a single roof in the heart of Charleston County,” said Doug Durbano, manager, Chicora Life Center.

The 9,807 square foot lease consists of exam rooms and office space. It will provide work spaces for doctors and school therapists, as well as a telepsychology center serving the coastal region.

Bennett Hofford Construction Company was contracted to install the tenant improvements for the mental health center, which includes a new HVAC system. The expected completion date for those improvements in December 1, 2015.

Funding for the improvements was provided by UC Funds.

The Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center joins the South Carolina Department of Drug and Alcohol Abuse Services (DAODAS); South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control; Charleston County Vital Records; Fetter Health Network, Inc.; and, the Tricounty Interoffice Group (supportive of Alcoholics Anonymous) in signing leases at Chicora Life Center.

The first tenant already has taken occupancy with several more scheduled before the end of the year.

The Chicora Life Center is a $29 million-plus privately invested redevelopment of the old Naval Hospital property in North Charleston, SC. The Center will serve as a social services hub, featuring myriad social, government, non-profit and care facilities – all in one building conveniently located in the heart of Charleston County.
